FiloFax Notebook A5

I have accumulated a fair amount of stationery goods over the years. Its not exactly because I like them or anything, but more so it was due to a yearning to find the perfect fit. This alongside with a perchant of impulsive shopping, and a mind for experimental builds (which often doesn’t really turn out well afterwards).

(Bear with me while I try to piece my memory.)

The spiral down to this hole began about some years ago. On a whim ( I don’t really remember when), I decided to schedule weekly on my red travelogue sketchbook. I also decided to keep track of it, meaning I was comparing and contrasting what I had planned and what I ended up doing.

After that sketchbook was done I decided to go full scale on this organization. There were two things that caught my eye, filofax and travelers notebook.

I came across videos of people showcasing their setup for their filofax (what you might have guessed, the planner community). Before this  I only used to have school issued, dated agenda to keep in check about homeworks (which I never really used it at all)

but this planner organizational hobby wasent like those at all. School agenda felt like happy teddy bear regime, their dated pages would make me feel constricted. I would end up having them blank If I missed one day.

Filofax and Notebooks on the other hand felt personal, a place to gather yourself and put your self in the center of things. So I decided to hunt for Filofaxes.

You see, there is another problem with me. I have a tendency to fall for old, desoluted things. Filofax mini was one of them, I wanted both the functionality and portability, something that you can take it out from your pant pocket and look cool using it. By the time I went to buy it they were discontinued. Also filofaxes tend to be about more than 50+ cad, the leather ones are in the hundreds, and the other ones tend to be tacky. Ordering from website rips out my soul because shipping cost is high in Canada.

(Before you go on to say that why couldn’t I just buy a galaxy note...well i wanted too. I was saddled with a nexsus phone for the reason is “i had too many stylus stuffs”........as for why i didnt use my galaxy note 10.1..well it was too big (ok you caught me))

Thus I bought something else that I had my eyes on in Aliexpress, I decided to buy this linedoki thing. As i said, I had a perchant for tiny things stuffs..so I brought the a7 size.

(I found them at 30 bucks...I went for the red one)

There were two realization that made me fall out of love with that planner.
1. The binder really does get in the way of writing
2. it was bulky
3. It was tiny.

(It didn’t stop me from buying this filofax mini though from...I liked cute stuffs)

Filofaxes were bulky and stationery. Travelers Notebook on the other hand, There is a certain charm to it, there is a sense of aesthetic and functionality to it that makes it soo mesmerizing to watch them on youtube. Particularly’s people’s setup and flip through their notebook.

If Filofaxes prices at most while expensive, you would understand that the functionality is being sold. Travelres Notebook on the other hand feels a little tiny bit on selling you this thing because art. It is a hand crafted leather...leather making is a craftsman ship...So it is a brand that is selling you this art and the system.

But really in my eyes it was just a leather. buying a flap of leather felt a bit weird. One might think they can make something similar if they get a leather trim and rope from michaels under 20 bucks...of course they would fail to make it without proper skills but the point remains is the overall cost was less then the travelers notebook. I actually bought those materials from Michaels, but later decided not to pursue the diy because it might just prove to be futile to work with the leather. I did eventually bought another knockoff from aliexpress, where the leather quality was a bit dirty..in the midst of these, I had some failed experiments trying to replicate or replace travelers notebook.

I plan to upload all the notebooks I have gathered in my collection.

--

I did eventually found a boyfriend, filofax notebook pretty much checklisted off everything I wanted out of a system. I immediately snagged one when filofax has free shipping promotion.

Portability? check
Customizable? Check
Need more space to write? standard lined paper is 7 mm.

For me in my life, I always have a tendency to search for the right thing to make my life easier, they never really work out because its the person not the tool that needs to make things right. But I must say, I think filofax is the only one that would be considered a success story.
